It appears like teaching jobs in schools will continue to be scarce for the 2011-2012 school year. In the aftermath of the 2008 economic fallout, there is certainly more competition for teacher jobs due to a lack of school vacancies, a backlog of college graduates who have not been able to secure positions, and an increase in career changers who have entered the profession. Many qualified candidates who could not find public school teaching jobs have settled for working as aides, teaching assistants and substitute teachers. Although most economists predict that we will continue to experience a weak job market for at least a few more years, the long term projections for education jobs looks much brighter. With the baby-boomers starting to retire and steady population growth, there will be a continued demand for elementary, middle and secondary school teachers.
